East Carolina University Student Chapter

Dozier_Jeffrey.jpg
The Society for Human Resource Management's Student Program was created in 1965 to promote mutually beneficial interaction between HRM students and practitioners. Since the first chapter was chartered more than 40 years ago, the student program has experienced tremendous growth. The program now includes over 250 affiliated student chapters and more than 19,000 student members.

The East Carolina University student chapter is comprised of 60 students who are seeking a degree in the field of Human Resource Management. The student chapter meets monthly on the campus of East Carolina University and is also an active participant in the monthly meetings and activities sponsored by NCCSHRM.

There are a large number of perks involved with membership, but getting started with a student SHRM chapter is just the beginning. Students can also leverage the power of Society for Human Resource Management student chapters in North Carolina into professional membership after graduation; this membership will continue to link them nationally with HR professionals, helping them guide their career toward increasing success over time.

Sincerely,

Honorable Mention Award 2015-2016 Student Chapter Merit Award

The SHRM student chapter merit award program, which began in 1972, was created

to encourage student chapters to require ongoing excellence in the following areas: student chapter requirements, chapter operations, chapter programming and professional development of members, support of the human resource profession and SHRM engagement.

Why be a part of our
student chapter?

SHRM student chapters hold regularly scheduled meetings to help members learn more about business and the HR field. They are run by elected student officers with the assistance of a chapter advisor and SHRM professional members.

Beyond our regular meetings, the ECU chapter participates in a variety of activities including:

  • Company tours

  • Student conferences

  • Resume writing workshops

  • Interviewing workshops

  • Fundraisers

  • Internship programs

  • Social events

  • Networking with SHRM professional chapter members

Each of these activities help students build relationships with other local professionals and students, while learning about Human Resource Management and positioning themselves for success upon graduation
